macOS Now Lets You Install Apps to an External SSD
Unfortunately, one thing hasn’t changed with these new Macs: Apple is still being very stingy when it comes to how much internal storage space you get without having to fork over more cash. However, a new feature added in macOS Sequoia 15.1 allows you to install Mac apps that eat up a lot of storage space to an external drive.
You have always been able to drag apps to an external drive and launch them from there. This is a new feature for Mac App Store title. On a Mac with a really small drive (the base M4 Mac mini comes with a paltry 256GB SSD) this can make a lot of difference. The article mentions games, but some apps (Xcode) and suites (Microsoft app suite) can add up significantly.
Not so useful for managed apps but could be a good option for personal setups.
