Welcome to MacAdmins.news Summer Camp 2025!
It is late June, which means that (Northern Hemisphere) summer months are imminent. With them, we get hot summer days, school vacations and parents juggling their kids at home, crowded roads, trains and airports. For admins in the education space, this means a busy time of preparing for the next school year.
During this time, the amount of news relevant to Apple Admins and this news summary goes down significantly. It also means this newsletter will go into "Summer Camp" mode. Until the end of August, the news summary will be published every two weeks (or fortnightly, for our UK friends). I did this last year, and the Summer Camp issues maintained a similar amount of articles and readers.
The other Summer Camp issues will be July 10 and 24 and August 7 and 21. Regular weekly issues will resume on September 4, just in time for the last stretch of betas before the release of the 26.0 Apple platforms.
I might use that extra time to catch up with some projects and writing. I might also just enjoy the summer myself. Hope you get to enjoy some well-deserved time off, too.

New zine: The Secret Rules of the Terminal
It turns out that the “rules” for how the terminal works (how do you edit a command you type in? how do you quit a program? how do you fix your colours?) are extremely hard to fully understand, because “the terminal” is actually made of many different pieces of software (your terminal emulator, your operating system, your shell, the core utilities like grep, and every other random terminal program you’ve installed) which are written by different people with different ideas about how things should work.
